🛠️ Skilled Worker Reform: The PSTQ
Quebec has launched the Programme de sélection des travailleurs qualifiés (PSTQ) to replace its old skilled worker program. Candidates must apply through Arrima and are scored out of 1,400 points based on language skills, education, local work experience and willingness to settle outside Montréal. French is key. The new system focuses on filling labour gaps with better-matched newcomers.

🚫 Pause on Family Sponsorships
In a major shift, Quebec is freezing sponsorships for spouses, common-law and conjugal partners, and dependent adult children until June 2026. The province says it has hit its cap of 10,400 applications. The move affects many immigrant families, causing delays, uncertainty and hardship.

🔍 Legal and Human Concerns
The suspension may raise rights issues under the Charter and is drawing criticism from legal and immigrant communities. Ottawa may consider workarounds, but options are limited.
