🇨🇦 Ontario Tears Up Its Immigration Rulebook — Meet the New Workforce Priority Stream

Ontario launches new Workforce Priority stream in major OINP redesign

On June 26, 2026, Ontario scrapped its old patchwork of immigrant nominee streams and replaced them with a single, employer-driven Workforce Priority stream — the first phase of the biggest OINP redesign in years.

🧭 Three New Pathways
The new stream runs on three tracks: one for higher-skilled TEER 0–3 occupations, one for TEER 4–5 roles that federal programs often overlook, and a dedicated pathway for self-employed physicians. Selection now hinges on labour-market need, employer demand and occupational priorities rather than a fixed menu of streams.

⚠️ Old Profiles Are Being Wiped
Expressions of Interest submitted under the former streams that haven't received an invitation are being withdrawn. Anyone who was counting on the old graduate, worker or Express Entry-linked streams will need to submit a fresh EOI once the redesigned system reopens later this summer.

🎓 What It Means for You
Graduates lose their dedicated pathways and will generally need an eligible job offer; lower-skilled workers gain new options through the TEER 4–5 track; and physicians finally get a route built around independent practice. Now is the time to check your NOC, TEER level, job offer and language results so you're ready the moment intake opens.

Just days after ordering some "Lost Canadians" to hand back their citizenship certificates, IRCC has reversed itself — issuing revalidation letters confirming the documents stay active, in many cases without any new evidence from applicants. IRCC says the recall reached only a few dozen people, while roughly 4,100 Bill C-3 citizenship-by-descent claims remain under a broader documentation review. Read more

Saskatchewan has already used about 55% of its 2026 nomination allocation, and its remaining SINP intake windows for capped sectors are tightly scheduled — including windows on July 6 and 7. Employer Position Approval applications submitted outside a sector's assigned window won't be accepted, so employers backing a foreign worker need their paperwork ready before the door opens. Canada's provinces and territories are pressing Ottawa for bigger Provincial Nominee Program allocations and a reworked Express Entry, arguing at the latest Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration that they need more control to fill regional labour gaps. No changes were announced, but with PNP admissions already cut, the push signals where economic immigration may head under the 2027–2029 levels plan. Read more

Canada's job vacancies rose for the first time in nearly four years, with Statistics Canada counting 506,700 open positions in the first quarter of 2026 — a 2.4% increase. Demand is strongest in the trades and practical-skill roles that are common newcomer pathways, from truck drivers (13,000+ openings) to material handlers and automotive technicians. Read more

How to Avoid Costly Refusals When Immigrating to Canada

An immigration officer raising a hand to decline an application while a distressed applicant holds their head

🇨🇦 Navigating Canadian immigration alone can double your risk of refusal, according to IRCC's own findings. Many applicants miss critical details or misunderstand complex rules, leading to expensive mistakes.

Here's why you shouldn't go it alone:

  • 📈 Self-represented applicants face nearly double the refusal rates (19.3% vs. 10.4%)
  • ⚠️ Even accidental mistakes or omissions can lead to a finding of misrepresentation and a five-year ban under Canadian law
  • 🕒 Timely, correct responses to Procedural Fairness Letters (PFLs) require legal know-how by a Canadian Lawyer (not a Consultant)
  • 📋 Missing or incorrect documents cause automatic rejections
  • Understand the differences between a Lawyer and a Consultant
  • 🤝 Hiring an authorized Lawyer cuts your risk of refusal by half, saving time and money
