Job Interview Guide for Answering “Tell Me About Yourself”

“Tell me about yourself” is the question that’s easy to mess up.

You ramble.

You sound rehearsed—but not in a good way.

You list your entire career history instead of what actually matters.

Varun Negandhi, a job interview coach, recently shared a great approach: using a three-act structure to craft a clear, engaging, and memorable introduction.

Why does this work?

It’s easy to remember, so you stay on track (and avoid rambling).
It follows a storytelling format that feels natural to the listener.

Here’s how to structure your answer:

Act 1: The Spark (Where it all began)

"Growing up, I was obsessed with how things worked, from taking apart my dad’s old radio to coding my first basic game in high school. That passion led me to study computer science at XYZ University."

Act 2: The Journey (Key experience + impact)

"During my internship at ABC Corp, I built a data pipeline that cut processing time by 40%, and that’s when I knew I loved solving complex data problems."

Act 3: The Now (Why you’re the right fit)

"Now, I’m excited to bring my data engineering skills to <Company Name> and help optimize real-time analytics for business growth."

By framing your answer like a story, you make it easier to follow—and more compelling. Try it out in your next interview!

Words to Use at Work for Career Success

Strong communication skills are a key indicator of career success. The same idea, expressed in two different ways, can have a drastically different impact on your listener. Sometimes, it’s tone or body language. Other times, it’s the precise words you choose that make all the difference.

In a Forbes article, contributor Cheryl Robinson highlights a few simple yet powerful words for career growth.

Curious
“Why did you decide to do this?” (Can sound confrontational)
“I’m curious about your reasoning. Could you share more about how you landed in this direction?” (Signals openness and interest)

Because
“We should move the meeting.” (Gives no reasoning, making it seem arbitrary)
“We should move the meeting because we’ll have more complete data when we get together. (Provides justification, making the suggestion more persuasive)

Yet
“I haven’t mastered this.” (Implies a fixed limitation)
“I haven’t mastered this yet.” (Signals a growth mindset and capability to improve)

Best Stargazing Across Canada

While you may not be used to the shorter days in Canada yet, spring is a great time to see the stars. The crisp, clear nights and fewer mosquitoes compared to summer make for an ideal stargazing experience.

Here are some amazing places to stargaze across Canada, according to MSN:

Jasper National Park, Alberta – A designated Dark Sky Preserve, Jasper offers breathtaking views of the Milky Way and even the occasional glimpse of the northern lights.

🏔️ Mount Robson Provincial Park, British Columbia – Nestled in the Rockies, this remote park provides stunning, unobstructed night skies away from city lights.

🌾 Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan – One of Canada’s darkest places, this prairie park is perfect for spotting constellations, meteor showers, and even the Andromeda Galaxy.

🌊 Killarney Provincial Park, Ontario – Known for its stunning landscapes, Killarney’s dark skies make it a top spot for astronomy enthusiasts and photographers alike.

🌲 La Mauricie National Park, Quebec – This tranquil park offers crystal-clear views of the night sky, best enjoyed from one of its many lakeside spots.
